Trammell Crow Residential’s (TCR) new mixed-use residential community at 360 5th St. in San Francisco’s SoMA district was approved by the planning commission. The $95-million development includes 127 apartment homes and more than 9,300 square feet of retail and creative workspace on .53 acres.

TCR’s Bruce Dorfman says the highly visible and walkable site in Central SoMa “will enhance this area,” noting the development also includes streetscape improvements along Shipley, 5th and Clara streets to “greatly improve the pedestrian experience.”

KTGY Architecture + Planning designed the project to connect it with its neighborhood and with the city. The firm’s Jessica Musick says, “The side streets are narrower ‘living streets’ where the intention of the city is to create residential enclaves.” A generous roof deck overlooking the living street as well as 5th Street will help activate the street edges and ensure usable open space is exclusive to the residents.
