The Buckly Yard townhomes and paired homes are part of a mixed-use residential enclave that is designed as a soft transition from the larger scale buildings of the Buckley Space Force Base to the natural open space along East Toll Gate Creek. KTGY’s designers brought forward dynamic designs in two housing styles to align with Aurora’s residential design standards and the Aurora Places Comprehensive Plan Place Types map. Additionally, this community serves to address the city’s goals around infill development.
The region’s design guidelines seek to create dynamic neighborhoods by limiting repetition in both elevation and floor plans. KTGY’s designers embraced this opportunity and leaned into two architectural styles, americana and cottage, that pull influences from the history of the adjacent Space Force base. The Americana style homes feature steeply pitched accent gable roof forms with smooth panel trim, and windows that utilize muntin patterns for the full window length and height. The Cottage style homes also feature pitched roofs but are fitted with wood-look shingles. Front porches and muntin patterns on the top portions of the windows provide additional visual variation. The homes’ massing, roof pitch, gable end, fascia, and eave details together with porches, window muntin and trim designs make these homes a clear reflection of historic American architecture with a retro-urban perspective. Private outdoor spaces connect visually with public open space woven throughout the community. While a landscaped water detention area accommodates the floodplain from the nearby creek and serves as drainage for the entire site. Landscape buffers, open space and architectural variation all serve to create a community as dynamic as the residents it attracts.
