Story

KTGY is proud to honor Eddie Espinoza, Job Captain in KTGY’s Irvine office, for his outstanding service to the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization, From Lot to Spot, which transforms urban vacant lots into sustainable green space. The organizations most recent project in the city of Watts is the second recipient of a financial donation through the companywide giving program “Making a Difference”.

From Lot to Spot (FLTS) was founded in 2007 as a direct result of the lack of accessible green space in low-income neighborhoods. With the assistance of community leaders, volunteers, landscape-industry companies and financial supporters, FLTS has built pocket parks, gardens, micro-spaces, walking paths, bicycle paths, and other sustainable, innovative spaces in underserved communities in Los Angeles County. “FLTS aims to convert vacant LOTS into urban SPOTS and we do so by planning with communities, not just for them.”

KTGY’s donation will help provide soil, seeds, plants, trees, pavers, irrigation equipment, and other materials needed to create a sustainable community garden. The decision to create a garden on this spot came directly from voices of the neighborhood. Located in Watts, where access to healthy food options is scarce, the garden will be maintained by the community and will provide them with fresh fruits and vegetables.

Eddie has been committed to FLTS for several years, “I enjoy getting my hands dirty and helping with the construction of these green spaces that serve as a refuge to children and adults.”
