Story

KTGY is proud to support Nancy Hastings of KTGY’s Irvine office as part of KTGY’s 2018 Making a Difference program for her volunteer work with Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST). Each year around February, KTGY calls for applications from all staff members, asking how we can Make a Difference in your charitable work.

On Feb. 24., Nancy volunteered at the “Brevard Florida Fundraising Event” to help raise funds for WWAST, where the team played against local police departments. The team consists of U.S. soldiers and veterans who, because of injury, have undergone amputation and now wear prosthetics that aid them to once again become competitive athletes.

Nancy has been involved with WWAST for many years because her nephew is a U.S. veteran – a non-amputee that was heavily involved in planning this year’s event. This personal connection is what sparked a vested interest in Nancy’s involvement with WWAST. Nancy’s passion for WWAST is fueled by what the organization stands for and says, “I love this organization because it shows the pride of the U.S veterans who, though wounded themselves, turn around and help children who have lost limbs. They are real heroes, both the veterans and the children.”

One goal of WWAST is to hold camps nationwide for children who are missing limbs and teach them to be athletic and independent. KTGY’s donation went towards helping send a young amputee child to WWAST’s life-changing camp, fund important amputee related medical research, and assist in funding WWAST’s annual event schedule. Thank you, Nancy, for Making a Difference!
