KTGY Architecture + Planning’s Tysons Office Appoints Lauren Young as Regional Development Director

Lauren Young has joined the Tysons office of KTGY Architecture + Planning as regional development director. In her new role, Young is responsible for strengthening and growing client relationships in the Washington, D.C. Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Southeast regions of the U.S. and contributing to the firm’s client-focused initiatives.
Young is working in collaboration with Jeremy Agraz, KTGY’s national development director, and Tysons office leaders: Kamran Charmsaz, LEED AP, principal and high-density studio leader; Ben Kasdan, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, associate principal and design lead; Smita Anand, AIA, principal, who leads the design of for-sale low-density residential; and Michael Medick, principal, who leads Tysons’s urban planning and community design studio.
The Tysons office of KTGY focuses on architecture and planning for residential and mixed-use developments from for-sale single-family residential to multifamily communities, ranging from affordable to luxury.

This announcement comes on the heels of the hiring of Christine King as regional development director in KTGY’s Denver office. According to Agraz, KTGY is continuing to hire regional development directors in key areas of the country to help lead the firm’s diversification and expansion strategies.
Young has more than 20 years of experience in business development, marketing, and strategic planning in the architecture, engineering and construction industry and most recently served as an associate partner and head of business development for architecture, engineering and interior design firm, BKV Group’s Washington, D.C. office. Young joined BKV Group in 2012 and was instrumental in transforming a new office into a 40-person, multi-disciplined studio.
Prior to BKV Group, she was a principal at RTKL Associates, Inc. in Washington, D.C. and associate and business development manager for LITTLE Diversified Architectural Consulting in Arlington, Virginia.
Young is an active member of the District of Columbia Building Industry Association (DCBIA) and currently serves on its membership committee. She is also a member of the DC Real Estate Group, Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), D.C. Chapter and is a member and past president of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), Washington, D.C. Young was the recipient of SMPS’ 2016 Ginny Solomon Golden Tuba Award, which is bestowed annually to an individual who’s made outstanding contributions to professional services marketing and the D.C. chapter.
Young holds a Bachelor of Arts in art history and English/creative writing from Emory University in Atlanta and a Master of Mass Communications from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia.
KTGY established its Tysons office in 2010. Since that time, KTGY Tysons area projects include a variety of building types from office to apartments, condominiums, townhomes, hotels, retail, mixed-use projects, single-family and 55+ communities.
Notable projects by KTGY Tysons include:
– Gables Pointe 14 is a new, mixed-income, 12-story apartment complex near transit in the Fort Myer Heights neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia. Amenities include community rooms, fitness center, media room, pet wash, large exterior plaza deck and a rooftop pool deck with spectacular views of Washington, D.C. Gables Residential is the developer. Opening is planned in late summer 2019.
– Retreat at McLean & Mehr Farm by Toll Brothers is a new for-sale, single-family community located in one of the highest-priced suburbs of Washington, D.C., in the heart of McLean, Virginia, minutes from restaurants, shopping, and commuter routes. KTGY created a contemporary farmhouse design with clean lines, juxtaposed textures of light, dry-stack stone adjacent to metal canopies and dark bronze windows, unlike any other in this affluent, traditional market. Toll Brothers recently opened the models for these two neighboring communities.
– The Porches at Allenberry Resort is located in the historic, amenity-rich community of Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania. Collaborating with the owners of the resort, KTGY designed a new modern-farmhouse, single-family residential community connecting to the landmark resort. Architects and planners worked from a deep understanding of the desires of residents to maintain privacy, to live in homes that are both practical and beautiful, and with a commitment to natural materials. A traffic-calmed multi-modal paved path connects directly to the resort. This community is designed for an active lifestyle where residents will travel by golf carts, bicycles or on foot on a broad network of pathways connecting to the resort and the adjacent farm.
– AVA NoMa is a 13-story urban infill high-rise apartment community in Washington, D.C., which features 438 apartment homes and an exciting array of amenities including a first floor lobby, lounge, leasing office, fitness center, dog wash, bike shop, mail and package area, and 6,700-square-foot retail food court with dining terrace, in addition to a relaxing landscaped resident courtyard. Other community amenities include a rooftop amenity and pool area, and three levels of below-grade parking. AvalonBay Communities is the developer.
– Anthem House is located on the corner of East Fort Avenue and Lawrence Street in the heart of Locust Point and sits in one of the most convenient locations in Baltimore. Standing nine stories tall and positioned toward the water, Anthem House bids many of its 292-apartment unit’s picturesque views of the city’s renowned harbor. The high-rise community also includes 20,000 square feet of vibrant retail and 449 parking spaces. Designed to foster wellness and cultivate community, the building offers various amenities, including a state-of-the-art fitness center, collaborative spaces, an Infinity pool, and a spacious entertainment room with billiards and a communal kitchen.
– Canvas Valley Forge is a 55+ residential rental community located in suburban Philadelphia in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, near Valley Forge. Developed by The Bozzuto Group, Canvas was a collaboration between KTGY’sTysons office and KTGY’s 55+ Studio in Los Angeles. The 231 apartment homes and the age-inspired amenities and services are tailored to this demographic including an on-site resident service director who can help with everything from moving in to planning a night out or arranging for transportation or the delivery of groceries. Canvas is also located in the midst of shopping, dining, entertainment, recreation, transportation and employment.
