July 24, 2019— KTGY Architecture + Planning announced today the Bellows home in Garbett Homes’ residential community of Granite Legacy located in South Salt Lake, Utah, has received the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Housing Innovation Award. The DOE Housing Innovation Awards honor the very best in innovation on the path to zero-energy-ready homes by recognizing forward-thinking builders who are delivering American homebuyers with a better homeowner experience.

Built to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready specifications, the homes at Granite Legacy designed by KTGY and built by Utah builder Garbett Homes, set a new standard in the health, energy savings, comfort and durability in home building, according to KTGY Principal, Bill Ramsey, AIA, who is based in the firm’s Denver office. “Granite Legacy offers 76 homes built so energy efficient that all or most of the home’s energy consumption can be offset with solar.”

The Bellows home in Granite Legacy was recognized in the Housing Innovation Award production category. One Grand Award winner will be announced at the Housing Innovation Awards ceremony from among the winners in the five categories: custom buyer, custom spec, production, multifamily and affordable homes. The 2019 ceremony will take place at the EEBA High Performance Home Summit, October 1-3, in Denver, Colorado.

The award-winning Bellows homes feature a modern design and include three bedrooms, two baths and an attached two-car garage and basement totaling 3,224 square feet. The Bellows welcomes guests with its grand entryway and wide hall leading to the spacious great room. This open concept home was designed with the most discerning buyer in mind.

“THIS HOME IS GREAT FOR ENTERTAINING OR ENJOYING A QUIET EVENING AT HOME WITH A GOOD BOOK,” SAID RAMSEY. “THE BRIGHT, GOURMET KITCHEN PROVIDES A LARGE ISLAND, EAT-IN AREA AND AN ABUNDANCE OF WINDOWS. THE HOME’S FLEX SPACE CAN BE USED AS AN OFFICE, BEDROOM, NURSERY, STUDIO OR FORMAL LIVING ROOM. THE FLOOR PLAN ALSO OFFERS OPTIONS SUCH AS A GRAND MASTER BATH AND COLD STORAGE IN THE LOWER LEVEL.”

KTGY has a long history of collaboration and innovation with Garbett Homes. Garbett Home’s Bellasol community, designed by KTGY and located in the master-planned community of Rosecrest in Herriman, Utah, was the first home to receive the DOE’s Challenge Home certification in 2013, which recognized home builders for their leadership constructing zero-energy ready homes that are both energy efficient and include high-end finishes, improved indoor air quality and greater durability. Bellasol was also the first climate 5 net-zero “smart home” to achieve a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) 0 rating.

Granite Legacy is located just off 3300 South, along 500 East in South Salt Lake, close to everything from golf courses to downtown Salt Lake including area parks, shopping at Fashion Place Mall and popular area restaurants, while still enjoying a small-town feel, notes Ramsey. The residential community also has convenient access to Interstate 15, Interstate 80/Highway 201, State Street and public transportation.
