What It’s About:

Millennial buyers, inter-generational households, move-down buyers—across the country, all of these segments are seeking affordable housing options. Featuring case studies, conceptual projects and design lab outcomes, this advanced session will offer “beyond the box” design and density solutions that make housing affordable and prove that amazing designs don’t always need to come with a steep price tag. This session will also focus on the “missing middle” types of housing, including varying densities, compatible forms, blended neighborhoods and integration of shared community spaces—all of which are used to create vibrant neighborhoods that are sought after by all generations.

What You’ll Learn:

Identify the wide range of building types used to create complete communities, and explore the idea of product differentiation to fully enhance market absorption. Utilize common sense principles of planning and design to maneuver the gauntlet of obstacles frequently associated with gaining approvals. Learn how to construct simple buildings—an alternative to achieve densities without the added financing challenges of more complex construction. Explore alternative housing types and design details to make smaller lots and spaces more open and livable.
