In June 2015, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Modi gave its approval for launch of “Housing for All by 2022” aimed at building 50 million houses. The scheme includes slum redevelopment and subsidized construction to promote affordable housing. The Union Budget earlier this year also provided welcome incentives for first time homeowners and developers to build on the scheme. The Real Estate Act promises to institute single window clearances to catalyze real estate development. However, challenges remain: the lack of standardization, difficulty with land acquisition, financing, approvals processes, and bottlenecks to realizing economies of scale are yet to be addressed.

Please join this USIBC conference call that will feature a Q&A between Rohit Anand from KTGY Architecture & Planning, and Dave Borsos from NMHC on the American experience on affordable housing and best practice recommendations for India. Anshul Jain, Managing Director – India, Cushman & Wakefield, will provide opening and closing remarks from an India perspective.
