New technology, new materials and techniques, and a changing immigration policy all have the ability to transform how we design and build our apartment communities. Virtual or augmented reality and 3-D printing have brought science-fiction like solutions to design, visualization and construction. Wood frame construction has been under review in some states leading to a debate on alternative construction materials. And a few developers are taking another look at modular construction, to address the speed and costs of construction, but also potential labor issues related to changing immigration policies.
