Whittier, CA
Retail | Ground Up
The Village at Whittier will be located at the historic Fred C. Nelles Youth Facility site. Closed after 113 years, it had been the oldest juvenile facility in the state and is registered as a California Historical Landmark. Most recently, a favorite location site for filming many well-known movies and television series.
The center’s design intent captures the Spanish mission style architecture interspersed throughout the surrounding neighborhood. Unadorned stucco walls, complemented by classic gables over arched storefronts and a classic “bell” tower depicts the true character the historic mission revival era. Conversely, modern elements such as dark bronzed accents and linear lines peppered throughout injects a contemporary feel to the overall center. The almost 159,000 square feet of retail will benefit the local community and City as whole.
