National Association of Home Builders Best of 55+ Housing Awards
The Best of 55+ Housing Awards is the industry’s only national awards program honoring excellence in building, design, lifestyle and marketing of housing that appeals to boomers and beyond. The Best of 55+ Housing Awards are viewed by the industry and media as a prestigious showcase for innovation, emerging trends and quality housing that serves the mature demographic. National and International winners receive wide recognition in consumer-focused and business-to-business publications.

2016 55+ Best of Housing Award Finalists

Azulon at Mesa Verde
Azulon at Mesa Verde in Costa Mesa, Calif. is a finalist in the Best 55+ Market Rate Rental Community category. Located on the site of a former 50-year-old entertainment center, the design creates a well-detailed 215-unit luxury resort-style active adult community adjacent an existing shopping center, and respects single-family neighborhood to the north. Azulon provides all of the tranquility and comfort of a secluded compound, yet with the convenience of walking to grocery shopping, pharmacy, retail, dining and entertainment. The buildings are a combination of three and four stories, connected by a two-story recreation building. Careful attention to detail, from tile inlays on the stair risers to colonnades reflecting a Mexican Riviera influence, gives the residents the feel of being on vacation every day. The community was fully leased in less than 10 months and currently has a 50-person wait list.

Camino del Rey Senior Apartments
Camino del Rey Senior Apartments in Santa Clara, Calif., is a finalist in the Best 55+ Affordable Rental Community category. Camino del Rey offers 48 one-bedroom apartments that are affordable to low income seniors. This development consists of a three-story “C” shaped building, wrapping itself around an enclosed landscaped courtyard that serves as an outdoor extension of the community room and provides pedestrian access to parking and entry spaces. The architectural style of the project utilizes a mission-style uniform color scheme with contrasting materials and details with subtle punches of accent color in architectural features. Amenities include a community room, computer room, laundry facility, courtyard area with a barbecue, community gardens, benches, lighting and landscaping, a gate, and fencing. Camino del Rey was constructed using sustainable building methods and incorporates a number of ‘green’ features designed to ensure its long-term energy-efficiency and sustainability. This apartment community is LEED-H Platinum Certified, one of the toughest in industry guidelines for sustainable building and maintenance.

Freedom Collection at Victory at Verrado
The Freedom Collection at Victory at Verrado in Buckeye, Arizona, is a finalist in the category of Best 55+ Universal Design Home or Community. The Freedom Collection’s Entertainer Plan is a finalist in the category of Best 55+ Detached Home (1,701 – 2,400 Square Feet).  The Traveler Plan in the Freedom Collection is a finalist in the category of Best 55+ Detached Home (Over 2,400 Square Feet). Applying pioneering design concepts based upon Boomer home lifestyle research, the Freedom Collection is an all-new collection of homes thoughtfully designed for active adult living. Freedom Collection is located in the exciting next generation district called Victory with amenities specifically-designed for active adults situated within Verrado, an amenity-rich, all-ages master plan community near Phoenix. Active adults have access to both their unique district amenities as well as the master plan’s community amenities. The Freedom Collection features four brand new single-level FlexDesign® floor plans ranging in size from 2,284 to 2,624+ square feet. Each plan showcases Universal Design elements that are transparent throughout and includes options such as a casita, large walk-in shower at master bath, a super expanded laundry with pet wash station, guest suite, hearth room, guest suite or snore room.
