Set in a progressive city with a profound local and national historical narrative, this new hotel fuses contemporary architecture with historical relevance in its thoughtful and elaborate design scheme. Known as the “Queen City,” the hotel’s hometown was named after Queen Charlotte of Mecklen-Strelitz. To honor her impact on the region, the designers featured luxurious spaces throughout the property, interwoven with ornate patterns and sumptuous textiles reminiscent of the queen’s personal home and elaborate garments. The building’s clean architectural lines juxtaposed with feminine details derived from Queen Charlotte’s attire and the city’s textile industry; these came together as guiding influences for the public spaces. The lobby, with its brass inlaid terrazzo floor, guides guests from the hotel’s main entrances to the blue stone cladded staircase and grandeur chandelier – inspired by colors and layers found in Queen Charlotte’s famous gown. Caroline’s, the hotel’s buzzy oyster bar, spotlights key elements of the coastline’s architecture, fishing industry and history of boating with details like a custom rope art piece above the four-sided bar, walls clad in roughhewn oak planks, black mosaic floor tiling and seating upholstered in burnt sienna leather reminiscent of the sun rising over water. Guests can also delight in Dean’s Italian Steakhouse, a space that exudes the warm feeling of being at the dinner table among family.
