Plaza Verde II is the second phase of a student housing development on the University of California, Irvine (UCI) campus. This design was conceived with direct feedback from UCI’s student population, and the four-building complex offers an array of living arrangements to accommodate students at a much more attainable rate than would be possible in the surrounding area. KTGY’s designers were excited to continue their history of work on the UCI campus.
Working closely with the campus architect to support a consistent style, building exteriors are in warm colors, earth tones and terra cotta that reflect the Irvine hillside. Building entries create a “pinwheel of activity” where common areas branch out from the entrance. The mix of studio, one-, two-, four-bedroom and studio units create a range of living styles for differing student needs. The complex creates spill out spaces and multi-use outdoor areas connecting the two phases together. Plaza Verde II helps complete a connected community where students living in different parts of campus come together to study, relax and share communal amenities.
