Story

KTGY is proud to support Aireen Batungbakal of our Oakland, CA office in Making a Difference through her ongoing volunteer work with Cycle for Survival!

Cycle for Survival is a national movement where donors and participating cyclists raise awareness and funds to cure rare cancers. Every year, from February to March, the organization coordinates cycling events in major cities.

After witnessing her father’s battle with Lymphoma and realizing the impact chemotherapy instills after treatment, Aireen first participated in Cycle for Survival as a way of celebrating her father’s recovery and supporting research to improve treatment procedures.  Five years of volunteering later, Aireen continues to passionately support this cause, most recently encouraging her fellow coworkers to align with Cycle for Survival and “join the battle” by serving as captain for a KTGY Oakland cycle team in the 2019 San Francisco Cycle for Survival event. This past February, the KTGY Oakland team (many of whom have a loved one, friend or family member who fought or is battling cancer), headed to the Equinox Sports Club San Francisco and took turns cycling relay-style on stationary bikes while listening to motivational survival stories.

“Sharing the Cycle for Survival with KTGY and assembling the team was an empowering experience,” Aireen reflected. “It demonstrated KTGY’s proactive culture and eagerness to contribute to the national movement.”

Thank you for Making a Difference, Aireen! And thank you to all the participants from our Oakland office for supporting Aireen in her cause!!
