    As part of KTGY’s 2019 Making a Difference, we are proud to support Donovan Helminiak in his volunteer work with Kids Run the OC (KROC).

    KROC, an OC Marathon Foundation program, works with over 10,000 participants from schools in Orange County School Districts by providing training and program materials to help kids become more active and learn about nutrition while having fun training for a Kids Run Marathon.

    Donovan joined this year by volunteering as a Marathon Club coach. Students were responsible for coming to school an hour early twice a week over 4-month period to participate, and the coaches helped them create achievable nutrition and fitness goals. They held a mile test at the beginning, middle and end. While some of the kids were nervous at first, many improved dramatically, creating a lifetime experience in building confidence.

    By the end of the program, the students accumulated an equivalent of 25.2 miles of fun activity in preparation for a final mile “Marathon” in May with the OC Marathon’s Kids Run at the OC Fair and Event Center.
