EXPAND | 2019 | NO. 2 | Connection

September 16, 2019

At its most granular level, a set of architectural drawings graphically represents the connections that compose a building. Detail drawings show every connection, from the waterproofing of a window connecting to a wall, to the connection of two adjacent materials. However, most of the connections created by architectural design cannot be found within the construction documents: connection to the context, connection of spaces, connection to a community. Experiencing spaces together fosters meaningful relationships between people that go far beyond the barriers of an exterior façade. This issue of EXPAND brings together some of the many ways that architecture creates connections.
