EXPAND | 2022 | NO. 2 | Transform
October 31, 2022
Transformation, by definition, is a dramatic, large-scale change that can not be missed. Within the built environment, we often see headlines and keynote speakers talking about the next “big” thing that will change the industry forever. Be it a material, construction method or code change. The reality is that while a single building can transform a neighborhood in around two years, the industry’s transformation takes longer. The pace is slower and more intentional as architects, planners and designers shift their mindsets, challenge past processes and ask big questions. Each concept and every redline is a deliberate step to move the needle steadily forward. Cities are transforming alongside the people who live in them. It is not one big idea but many small steps along the way.
