Story

Situated in the heart of San Francisco’s SoMa district, 360 5th Street is a thoughtfully planned collaboration between KTGY and local community groups that connects to the street in a way that encourages interaction, a feeling of safety, a sense of place, and feels like home. Working hard to respect the existing community, and nod to the city’s considerable history while providing modern new residences to the area, the focus is on connecting the new building with its neighborhood and with the city of San Francisco. Facing 5th Street, the building is bound by Clara Street and Shipley Street. The architecture facing the side streets harkens back to what may feel like a simpler time, with street-level front doors and stoops. The design makes a grand gesture to the San Francisco tradition of bay windows, incorporating them throughout the development, filling the rooms with light and views to the outside. While the ground-level units enjoy the connection to the street, upper units are elevated flats with private decks. Shadow analysis along the top of the building led KTGY to incorporate step-backs in the building design, maximizing the light to the building and the neighbors. A generous roof deck ensures usable open space exclusive to residents. Building amenities include a fitness facility and business center.
