Basan Detroit

Located within Eddystone Detroit, a historic Italian Renaissance-style landmark, Basan Detroit came with a distinct architectural style that KTGY’s designers were eager to honor. With the intention of creating a high-end atmosphere for an Izakaya restaurant that melds with the overall heritage of the building the interior designers leaned on juxtaposition. The contemporary and edgy concept is layered with textures and color schemes that match Eddystone Detroit’s interiors in turn establishing a cohesive ambiance. Leaning into the juxtaposition, the space creates distinct dining experiences. A comfortable lounge allows for a quick cocktail and small plate, while the kitchen counter offers guests the opportunity to enjoy a multicourse chef’s tasting menu while taking in the sights and smells from the Robatayaki grill. Custom-made by local artists, pottery and painted art installations decorate open shelving and a statement screen design accents both the bar and restaurant. To up the drama of this stunning focal piece, the design team consulted lighting experts to create dramatic shadows and ambiance around these screens. With its eclectic charm and bold styles, Basan at Eddystone Detroit truly delights guests from a plethora of backgrounds and leaves a lasting impression.
