This community is the first building constructed as part of a master-planned development on a historic former Naval Air Station base. It features 60 affordable apartments for low-income seniors, with 30 set aside for unhoused people, including 28 homes for veterans exiting homelessness. This four-story massing with elevator access serves as a transitional area between three-story townhomes to the east and a six-story mixed-use multifamily building to the west. The ground floor has a community room with a kitchen, computer lab, on-site laundry facilities, bike storage and community gardens. The upper floors wrap around the open, active landscaped courtyard located on the podium level. Panelized floor and wall systems were used to reduce the new senior apartments’ construction to a record-setting construction schedule to 15 months from groundbreaking to completion. Green features reducing energy and water costs and improving residents’ quality of life earned the community GreenPoint Rating Gold. A transit stop just outside the building entrance, IA-separated bike trail and ferry stop within walking distance provide seniors with connectivity to the greater Bay Area. The neighboring family apartments currently under construction provides an additional 70 affordable homes for low-income families.
