Gables TLP (Transitional Living Program)

This transitional living facility consists of 14 units dedicated in assisting former substance abusers who need a place to call home. This half-way house hosts residences for approximately six months as they transition back into society. Unit plan sizes range between 472 sq. ft. and 958 sq. ft. (13 studio ranging between 472 & 547 sq. ft. and 1 one-bed at 958 sq. ft.) with kitchenettes. There is a common kitchen for all on the 2nd floor. This “dormitory” style living is designed to encourage residents to interact in communal spaces while gaining their independence. Completed in April of 2017, the building consists of brick and metal panel and pays homage to the 1950s Arlington County Modern /Art Deco era. The site has extreme topography as its sited at the bottom of a large hill. The building is set into the hill and the entry is on-grade. The gradation at the back elevation is 1.5 stories higher. The surrounding neighborhood consists of single-family and high-rise residential and is directly adjacent to US Route 50 at Arlington Boulevard. What makes this project unique is that it is dedicated to a substance abuse program and not a market rental.
