The Whittier is an affordable family housing community in the culturally-rich, inner-city neighborhood of Boyle Heights in East LA. This 5-story infill project is built where everything else in the area is 1-2 stories max. A unique feature is that this project was built in conjunction with an adjacent affordable senior housing project, Las Alturas, by Retirement Housing Foundation and includes a spacious shared courtyard that opens up to each other. The Whittier many other wonderful amenities including two community rooms that are completely open to the neighborhood for Boyle Heights community meetings and the other is located on the podium floor for residents only. Also, there is a library/computer area, outdoor kitchen with shaded seating in large courtyard, tot lot, play area, and basketball court that provides recreational opportunities for kids of all ages. The contemporary architectural style has clean lines with a wide range of floor plans and is LEED Silver Certified.
