Affordable Apartments
A catalyst for redevelopment in the area, Walker Landing was designed to answer the need for high quality affordable housing on the site of a former pickle plant. Many of the spacious units have multiple levels and private entrances, with private patios and balconies, giving them a townhouse feel. The architecture takes cues from the agrarian nature of the site. With relatively simple massing and a restrained kit of architectural parts, the buildings, while economical, also fit nicely with their neighbors. The central focus of the 78 units is the large open space recreation area and community building. The central building, which includes a community room and computer learning center, opens onto a central courtyard with outdoor seating, barbeque, picnic and play areas. Developed as a pedestrian-friendly project, it is close to transportation, parks and schools, allowing for easy walking and less need for parking on the site.
