Panel Description:

The Aster is a transformative mixed-use, mixed-income development in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, delivered through a successful public-private partnership (P3). In this webinar, the project team responsible for envisioning, designing, financing, and constructing The Aster will share practical insights into the project’s context, key challenges, and notable successes. Panelists will discuss how distinctive community elements were thoughtfully integrated into the design, along with the detailed funding strategies and pro forma considerations—including Utah’s first “twinning” tax credit deal and an adaptive-reuse component—that added layers of complexity yet made this ambitious urban P3 a reality. Bringing together voices from the private developer, the Salt Lake City Community Reinvestment Agency (CRA) that led the RFP process, and the design team, the session offers a holistic look at turning a long-stalled downtown site into vibrant, attainable housing that strengthens the community.
