Old Ivy, an expansive build-for-rent community consisting of apartments, single-family dwellings, duplexes and townhomes, is within walking distance of the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. While not considered a student housing development, it pulls architectural and material inspiration from the University of Virginia and caters to graduate students and those closely associated with the University and the Charlottesville metropolitan area. The development consists of 490 dwelling units, including two community-related amenity buildings with pools, a leasing center, parks, common open space, recreation and playgrounds, and trails connected to the 20-mile rustic “urban wilderness” Rivanna Trail. The trail meanders through forested buffers and protects the city’s streams and rivers while traversing many of the city’s neighborhoods. It links six parks and serves as a community-wide resource for exercise, relaxation and nature-related recreation and education. The single-family homes are clustered around common green spaces or parklets and contain both surface parked homes and one-car garage houses. Most of the parking for the development is accommodated either with on-street parking or a series of interconnected parking areas at the rear of most buildings.
