4300 San Pablo is an affordable apartment community designed to house seniors and transitional age youth. The development offers a structured, supportive program to foster mentorship and engagement that enriches the lives of young adults leaving foster care and seniors living independently. 4300 San Pablo represents a new solution for affordably by housing two vulnerable populations, in a configuration that lets them support each other in one of the country’s most expensive housing markets.
This transit oriented development exceeds the city’s sustainability targets and features an increased amount of bike parking and decreased priority for cars, on a compact site. The building design engages with San Pablo Avenue, and greets the ground plane with warm materiality and inviting floor to ceiling windows. A unique ground-level program including community rooms and supportive services furthers the goal of creating a community that allows seniors to age in place while providing former foster youth with a place to call home.
