Issue No. 13 | Gather

Great spaces do not always demand attention. An intentionally, even provocatively, designed space heightens the relationship between people and their environment. Oftentimes they leave you with a feeling, one that washes over you subtly guiding your subconscious. It could be something simple, like a retailer guiding you toward an impulse buy; or complex, like encountering a great work of art. Pathfinding, sight lines, visual and physical texture all shape the experience of everyday spaces. It takes an artist’s eye to guide these elements toward a unified goal that will translate into an intentional experience. When designing for the built environment, the practical considerations of spatiality are of equal concern to artistry. Beautiful, inspiring spaces should be accessible to everyone. The people who live their lives in the places and communities we touch experience these relationships on an intimate level. This issue of EXPAND will make subtext into text by highlighting intricacies to the creation of space.
