Wisteria development will feature 647 residential units when completed in 2025

In a groundbreaking ceremony held late last month, Spieker Senior Development Partners officially commenced work on Wisteria at Warner Center, a new senior housing complex at 5500 Canoga Avenue in Woodland Hills.

The more than 1 million square foot development, which sill span approximately 17 acres at the intersection of Canoga and Burbank Boulevard, is highlighted by a six-story building which will contain 647 senior residential units – including 486 independent-living units, 65 assisted living units, 20 memory-care units and 76 skilled nursing beds.

The “Life Plan Community” will also include an on-site healthcare center, located adjacent to the senior housing, as well as other community amenities like ground-floor retail spaces, dining areas, and open space. Plans also call for open spaces reserved for use by residents such as a swimming pool, a fitness center, a library, a movie theater, and a performing arts center.

“Los Angeles has needed this community for so long, and we’re both excited and proud to bring the area’s first comprehensive Life Plan Community to the San Fernando Valley,” said Wisteria Marketing Director Ernie Sandlin in a news release. “The homes at Wisteria will be beautiful, but the real value to the area’s seniors is the combination of these new homes with best-in-class services, amenities, and access to higher levels of assistance and care if needed down the road.

KTGY is designing Wisteria, which will have an L-shaped footprint along a site located just north of the 101 freeway.

“Wisteria at Warner Center evokes a contemporary design and offers an array of living options responding to the dynamic needs of residents,” reads a narrative posted to the firm’s website. “Rich with oversized courtyards accessible to residents and the surrounding neighborhood, the community draws on its surroundings crafting a walkable neighborhood encouraging interaction among residents and neighboring communities.

W.E. O’Neil Construction is the general contractor for Wisteria, which is on track for completion in 2025.

The project is one of several which are set to transform large, superblock sites within the Warner Center area, where L.A. Rams owner Stan Kroenke owns a growing number of coveted development sites.
