Story

For the second year in a row KTGY Chicago’s Jana Anderson volunteered as the lead teacher for Architects in Schools a nine-week program that includes an introduction to architecture/design, quick sketching, plan/elevation/section, model-making and scale. We could not be prouder of Jana and the 8th grade class from Cameron Elementary School that participated.

The class visited a local vacant site, analyzed the neighborhood [identifying Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats], and created their own program based on what would best serve the neighborhood. Many groups identified the need for a safe place for themselves and other children to go after school. Some also noted how their project would create much-needed jobs for the community.

The Architects in Schools program was created and is managed by the Community Interface Committee of the Chicago Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
