KTGY, an award-winning national design firm focused on architecture, interior design, branded environments and urban design, in partnership with White Lodging, has revealed the completed interior renovations of JW Marriott hotel properties in Austin and Indianapolis. White Lodging selected KTGY to design the renovations based on the longstanding relationship between the organizations as leaders in hospitality, and KTGY’s proven ability to transform spaces while honoring heritage.

KTGY’s Interior Design studio concepted the original designs for the Austin and Indianapolis hotel interiors in 2017 and 2011, respectively, and was strategically appointed to refresh the spaces for today’s contemporary palette. Drawing inspiration from local landscapes, each hotel mimics the unique market with a sophisticated aesthetic.

Revisiting its original concepts more than a decade later, KTGY’s renovations of the JW Marriott properties in Austin and Indianapolis showcase the firm’s unique ability to create spaces with staying power. In each, the new design is an investment in the original concept, maturing each into a modern application of hospitality that welcomes guests to enjoy their environments.

JW Marriott Austin
Located on Congress Avenue, just two blocks from the Colorado River, the JW Marriott Austin design is centered around the waterway, like much of life in Austin. The hotel previously showcased a Texas-inspired palette of golds and browns, and now reflects the cool, blue fluidity of water and the natural and built environment of the capital city. Walking into the lobby and continuing into the 1,012 guest rooms, guests are greeted with new carpeting featuring splashes of blue to contrast the city’s heat, and fluid forms in lighting and decorative accents. KTGY organized the Lobby Bar’s new seating to create a welcoming environment for individuals and groups to gather. Artwork throughout the space celebrates unique artists and embodies the spirit of Austin.

In addition to the hotel interiors, the KTGY team renovated Corner, the hotel’s ground-floor restaurant, to embody Tex-Mex couture. A palette of orange, golds, wood tones and contrasting black materiality celebrates the warmth of southwestern scenery.  The rooftop pool deck has also been reimagined to create a sense of rejuvenating serenity with cool colors and wood accents. Edge Rooftop Bar, located on the fifth floor, mimics a vibrant gathering with bright blues, reds and sunset tones.

JW Marriott Indianapolis
Standing within the Indianapolis skyline as a gateway to the Midwest, the JW Marriott Indianapolis interiors draw from the building’s striking facade and surrounding nature. Originally inspired by the strong agricultural influence in the region, the hotel has been redesigned with the concept of fluid dynamics, evoked by the movement of clouds and the reflection of the building’s exterior. The lobby features a stark contrast between colors and elements, from soft, curved edges to geometric shapes and metallic accents. KTGY carried this modern, refined aesthetic through to the hotel’s 1,013 guest rooms and meeting spaces.

KTGY also renovated the JW Marriott Indianapolis on-site restaurants and bar spaces. A refreshed High Velocity bar focuses on industrial design, blending raw materials with a welcoming atmosphere that echoes the vibrant sports community of Indianapolis. The restaurant’s open layout features warm wood tones, large glass windows with ample natural light, and vintage sports artwork commemorating the local history. Together with an updated lobby bar, the new food and beverage spaces on the property invite guests to mingle and connect in the hotel’s community spaces.

Within the hotel is the flagship location of the brand’s Dean’s Steak & Seafood restaurant, named after hotelier Dean White, father of White Lodging’s founder, Bruce White. Paying homage to the family’s Indiana roots, the restaurant reflects Dean White’s personal interpretation of luxury, centered around spending time with loved ones. Updated with elegant materials and a monochromatic theme, the restaurant features a dramatic open dining area and smaller, intimate seating options to cater to a variety of gatherings. Working closely with the White family, KTGY spotlights artwork, personal letters and family photos curated from the family’s collection. With these elements combined, Dean’s becomes a place where nostalgia and luxury harmoniously coexist.
