Story
Replacing an aging grocery store in an established shopping center the food hall creates a dynamic gathering space. The design is inspired by open food markets found in Barcelona Spain while tying to its location in San Diego, California. Light natural colors with rustic distressed materials accented by masonry bricks and subway tiles enforce a beach aesthetic. At the heart is a circular walk-up bar serving wine, local craft beers and fresh juice. Surrounding the central bar are a variety of local boutique style restaurants catering to young professionals with families. A retractable glass roof, incorporated into the design, provides an outdoor connection allowing for an open air experience as well as an abundance of natural light.
