KTGY Celebrates Grand Opening of Mixed-Use SLC Urban Enclave

November 20, 2023

Alongside development partners, Urban Alfandre and Garner Batt, a firm with an expanding resume of smart infill developments in Salt Lake City, Utah, KTGY is proud to celebrate the grand opening of Slate. Slate is a mixed-use residential community in the heart of the growing Central Ninth neighborhood. Next to the 900 South TRAX station, and around the corner from chic mainstays Water Witch and Nohm, Slate epitomizes what an urban enclave focused on active mobility can do in a transformed part of the city.

Slate’s offering of cleverly designed studio and one-bedroom units, with TRAX at the front door, make it irresistible to students and young people striking out on their own. Engaging amenities, views and spacious two-bedroom units attract established professionals and families. The five-minute walk to neighborhood hotspots holds appeal for anyone looking for the urban Salt Lake feel just outside of the downtown core.

Using transit-oriented zoning as an advantage, the community grows Salt Lake City’s urban housing stock with a denser, savvier alternative to typical Utah development. Already a destination for foodies and students, Slate aims to complete Central Ninth’s atmosphere with a 24-hour stop for commuters, young people, families and workers.

When talking about the development Stephen Alfandre, founding principal at Urban Alfandre, noted: “KTGY designed a beautiful building that fits perfectly within the urban neighborhood of Central Ninth. The unit plans, amenities, and streetscape showcase KTGY’s talent as a multifamily architect. We are very grateful for our partnership with them.”

Ground floor retail and co-workspace extend Central Ninth around the corner of Second West, activating the street and the transit station with a buzzing, friendly mix of residents, visitors and commuters. The design neatly wraps “The Shop” at 227 West between the two wings of the building, preserving and enhancing the street’s unique character.

Slate’s architectural and aesthetic influences are traditional and industrial. Describing the development, principal at KTGY, Nathan Sciarra says: “Working with James and Stephen Alfandre is a rewarding experience. They truly appreciate design and all the little details that come together to make an exceptional space. Attention to detail can be seen in Slate’s intricate brick detailing and corrugated metal siding, balconies and awnings. The murals, painted by local artists, running up and down the side of the building, soften its scale and give it a spark of personality.” Seen from the street level, Slate is a statement that reinforces the goals shared by KTGY, Urban Alfandre and the city: a five-minute community that a wide range of Utahns will be happy to call home.
